From JAPAN- A report from North Korean media on the joint declaration signed by the leaders of the two Koreas. China welcomed the Korean declaration hoping it will lead to long term peace in the region. The UN says another 10 countries will move to ratify the treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons, joining the 15 who have already signed it. The chief of the US Air Force has called for a 25% increase in the country's airborne force to confront rising threats from China and Russia. The Syrian government welcomed the agreement between Russia and Turkey to set up a buffer zone in the Idlib province by mid-October.

From GERMANY- In Germany police were ordered to stop clearing out tree sitters from an old-growth forest. Germany unveiled a carbon neutral hydrogen powered train, with plans to replace all diesel locomotives in the country. German auto manufacturers are stepping up development of electric cars and soon all gas stations will also have vehicle charging stations. Russia presented what it said was new evidence that it was a Ukrainian missile that shot down passenger flight MH17 in 2014. Former leftist President of Argentina Cristina Fernandez has been indicted on new corruption charges.

From CUBA- In Argentina, President Macri continues large layoffs of public workers in austerity moves. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel defended the right of same-sex marriage in the new draft constitution. NATO is reportedly increasing its naval presence in the eastern Mediterranean Sea for possible airstrikes on Syria. Activists across Europe protested on the 10th anniversary of the collapse of Lehman Brothers, which is seen as the start of the 2008 financial crisis. In the US, a Blackwater contractor will stand for trial for first degree murder for the third time over a massacre in Baghdad in 2007.

From RUSSIA- On his program called Going Underground, Afshin Rattansi begins with 2 press reviews with former Minister of State Norman Baker- first US National Security Advisor John Bolton vows to punish the International Criminal Court, then the Lehman Brothers held a gala party to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the start of the 2008 financial collapse. Afshin then interviews journalist Matt Taibbi on the events in 2008 that led to austerity programs across the globe. Matt points out that it was a series of uncharged crimes that caused the crash and that we are more susceptible to a worse one in the near future.
