In this front porch discussion of business, plant breeding, and intellectual property, we focus on the question of labeling GMOs in the food system. Chris Doval’s thoughtful consideration of questions he had not considered before gives this conversation richness and depth. Mention is made of Damian’s Hanover Gold Tomato and how regular farmers invest the time to create intellectual property. Doval frankly acknowledged both benefits and dangers of growing GM crops in a diverse agriculture system, including genetic trespass, crop improvement, and the need to change intellectual property laws.
