Ukraine moves ‘Orthodox’ Christmas Day in attempted snub to Russia – Ukraine has moved its official Christmas Day state holiday from 7 January to 25 December, the latest move aimed at distancing itself from Russia. President Volodymyr Zelensky signed into law a parliamentary bill that aimed to “abandon the Russian heritage of imposing Christmas celebrations”. In recent years, Kyiv has been cutting religious, cultural and other ties with Russia, aligning itself with the West. This process escalated following Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. Mr Zelensky signed the bill on Friday – two weeks after it had been passed by Ukrainian lawmakers. The legislation also moves another two state holidays, Day of Ukrainian Statehood, from 28 July to 15 July, and the Defenders’ Day, which commemorates armed forces veterans, from 14 October to 1 October. Moscow has so far made no public comments on the issue. For centuries, first imperial Russia and then the Moscow-dominated Soviet Union had tried – but always failed – to totally control Ukraine.

Despite the Poles’ promise not to include Russia in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and harm the Orthodox religion, they started to act as conquerors and soon caused major public discontent. A widespread anti-Polish movement was initiated across the country. The Polish garrison was besieged in the Kremlin, and after deblockade attempts failed, it surrendered in 1612. The liberation of Moscow didn’t mean the end of the war, which lasted six more years. As for Vladislav Vasa, he rejected his claim to the Russian throne only in 1634.

Those who have actually read the New Testament or, for that matter, the basic Judaic texts on this topic, know that Christ was accused and executed for the crime of blasphemy: He claimed to be the Son of God, the Son of Man (a messianic title), the messiah announced by the prophets and that He was God: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM” (John 8:58) (this “I AM” is a direct reference to Exodus 3:14). This claim is what split the Jewish people into those who accepted Christ’s claims and believed Him and those who did not. What is interesting here, is the view which the Jews who did accept Christ had of those Jews who did not. As we all know, Saint John the Theologian wrote the famous words “I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan” (Rev 2:9). And Christ Himself said “If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham” (John 8:39). What we see here is the basis for a claim which was first made in the Apostolic times and which was later fully endorsed and further developed by the Church Fathers: those Jews who rejected Christ thereby lost their “Jewishness” and the “new Jews” are the Christians, regardless of ethnicity, which now have become the new “chosen people”. In our modern times of hyper-political correctness and generalized “ecumenical dialogs of love”, Christians are mostly ignorant of theses facts and, when they are, they dare not mention them in public. At a time when Popes declare that Jews are their “older brothers”, that they need not accept Christ and that Christians and Jews are awaiting the same 2nd coming of Christ, saying that Christianity denies Jews their very Jewish identity is definitely “mauvais ton”. But before the 20th century, this Christian claim that modern “Jews” were not really Jews anymore was common knowledge, both amongst Christians and amongst Jews. [Sidebar: as I explained it in some details here, modern “Judaism” is not the religion of “Abraham, Isaac and Jacob” but the religion of Maimonides, Karo and Luria and has its roots in the teachings of the sect of the Pharisees, the Talmud and the Kabbalah. The closest modern heir to Christ-rejecting Jews of the times of Christ would be the Karaite sect. Modern “Judaism” really ought to be called “Phariseic Talmudism”. Russian warship Novocherkassk sunk in Boxing Day Storm Shadow missile attack Seventy killed after Ukrainian jets fire what are believed to be British-made weapons at amphibious navy vessel in Crimean port Ukrainian fighter jets have destroyed a Russian warship docked at a port in occupied Crimea in an attack bearing the hallmarks of British Storm Shadow missiles. Footage of the incident showed a fire and a huge explosion in the harbour at Feodosia at around 3am local time after the missiles struck the Novocherkassk, one of Russia’s biggest amphibious warships. The strike on the Novocherkassk is its most destructive hit since September, when Storm Shadow missiles destroyed a submarine being repaired at the dry dock in the Black Sea peninsula’s port of Sevastopol. Some European leaders are thought to be growing increasingly weary with the cost of supporting Kyiv after Ukraine failed to make significant gains against Russia over the summer during its Nato-backed counteroffensive. But analysts said this was the seventh warship in Russia’s Black Sea Fleet that Ukraine has destroyed and Grant Shapps, the Defence Secretary, said the strike demonstrated that Ukraine could yet defeat Russia. “The latest destruction of Putin’s navy demonstrates that those who believe there’s a stalemate in the Ukraine war are wrong,” he said. “They haven’t noticed that, over the past four months, 20 per cent of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet has been destroyed.” Russia frequently uses its amphibious warships to transport military assets, and Ukrainian officials said the Novocherkassk was carrying Shahed drones from Iran when it was hit. Moscow has launched waves of aerial attacks on Ukraine using such units. Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the Ukrainian air force for the successful missile strike and said the Novocherkassk had been sunk. “I am grateful to our air force for the impressive replenishment of the Russian underwater Black Sea fleet with another vessel,” he said. The docks at Feodosia are located on the south-east shore of Crimea, near the 11-mile Kerch Bridge, which links the peninsula to the Russian mainland, and are mainly used to repair warships or to finish fitting out new vessels. The Israeli airstrike claimed the lives of three fighters loyal to Tehran, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. “Two foreign fighters and one Syrian fighter were also killed in the Israeli strike,” said the Observatory. It added that Moussavi was targeted shortly after he entered a farm. Residents in the Sayeda Zeinab district south of Damascus, where the strike hit, reported that Iran-backed groups have tightened security there. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Abdollahian said in a post on X that “Tel Aviv faces a tough countdown.” Iranian Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri said, “Israel committed a strategic mistake, and their crimes will not remain unanswered.” General Jafar Assadi, former commander of the Revolutionary Guard forces in Syria, said that the Zionist entity targeted in recent weeks one of the headquarters frequented by Reza Mousavi, and he was not there at the time, but this time spies were able to determine his location, according to an agency affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps. Israeli army launches attacks on targets in Syria and Lebanon As war in Gaza rages, Israel is continuing its campaign against Syrian military and Hezbollah targets, sparking fears of regional spillover. Israel has launched attacks on positions in Syria and Lebanon, as part of its ongoing campaign against opposing militaries and armed forces in the Middle East. “The [Israeli army] struck military infrastructure belonging to the Syrian Army,” the Israeli military said in a post on the social media platform X on Tuesday. “[Israeli military] fighter jets also struck Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure in Lebanon,” it added, promising it would “continue to operate against any threat to Israel’s sovereignty”. Israel’s military has been engaged in cross-border fighting with Hezbollah and has launched repeated air raids on Syria since its war on Gaza began on October 7, raising fears of the conflict spilling over into the wider region. The latest attacks, which occurred between Monday and Tuesday, marked a spike in tensions between Israel and neighbours it has said have links to its enemy, Iran. Hamas also confirmed the assassination of its deputy leader Saleh al-Arouri in the blast that targeted its office in a southern Beirut suburb, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported. Six people died in the explosion. Lebanon’s caretaker prime minister, Najib Mikati, condemned al-Arouri’s killing as an “Israeli crime” that he said aimed to draw Lebanon deeper into the Palestine-Israel conflict. A Sputnik correspondent has reported that in response to the blast, Lebanon has stepped up its military presence outside the Hamas office in Beirut after what is believed to be an Israeli drone strike.

Explosions have been reported in the Iranian city of Kerman, where IRGC General Qasem Soleimani is buried. The cause of the explosions is unknown but at least 103 people are reportedly dead and 141 wounded. Local authorities have already dubbed the explosions a terrorist attack. According to reports, two bombs were planted in bags near the cemetery and were activated remotely. Iranian state television also announced that “following the terrorist incident in Kerman, the government declared tomorrow (Thursday) a day for public mourning across the country.” Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi vowed to bring the masterminds and perpetrators of the “heinous” terrorist attack to justice. The president further declared that the enemies of his country should know that such acts of terror cannot break the Iranian people’s determination to protect their values. In Iraq, Abu Taqwa Al-Saedi, leader of the “Rocket Battalion” within the Harakat al Nujaba group, was killed in a US attack on their Baghdad headquarters. Al-Saedi’s battalion has been unusually active since the beginning of war in Gaza, operating between Iraqi cities and Syria. According to a statement issued by the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), which Harakat al Nujaba group is a part of, Al-Saedi also served as the “Deputy Commander of the Operations for the Baghdad Belt,” referring to the agricultural areas surrounding the capital. The Harakat al Nujaba, close to Tehran and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, lacks parliamentary representation in Iraq but wields significant influence over the government’s coordinating framework. Al-Saedi, also the commander of the PMF’s 12th Brigade, was targeted by four US drone strikes as his convoy moved in eastern Baghdad’s Palestine Street area on Thursday morning. The US drone tracked Al-Saedi’s convoy from the Syrian border until it reached Baghdad, executing the operation finally within the security headquarters near the Iraqi Ministry of Interior. The US military confirmed staging an attack on an armed faction’s headquarters in Baghdad, targeting an individual responsible for attacks against military bases in the country. Al-Saedi’s full name is Mushtaq Talib Al-Saedi, known by his alias “Abu Taqwa.” He hails from a modest family residing in “Al-Kamaliya” neighborhood, one of the populous districts to the east of Baghdad. However, his family roots trace back to Diyala Province in the east of Iraq. Sources close to Al-Saedi, speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat under the conditions of anonymity, reveal that he was an active member of the Sadr movement led by Muqtada Al-Sadr before being arrested by US forces between 2007 and 2012. Al-Saedi later broke away from the Sadr movement to join the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq movement led by Qais Al-Khazali, only to defect again and align himself with Harakat al Nujaba. The Ukrainian National Police said this in a post on Telegram, Ukrinform reports. “Today at 11:37, the police received a report that a deputy set off grenades in the building of the Keretsky Village Council of the Mukachevo district during the session. According to preliminary reports, the explosion killed one person and wounded the [deputy] and 11 more people,” the post said.

Why Is the Media Ignoring Evidence of Israel’s Own Actions on 7 October? – Jonathan Cook • December 15, 2023 The BBC and others keep revisiting Hamas crimes that day, but fail to report on growing evidence that Israel killed its own citizens, often in grotesque fashion Barely a day has passed since the 7 October attack by Hamas when the western media has not revisited those events, often to reveal what it claims are new details of astonishing atrocities carried out by the Palestinian group. These disclosures have served to sustain public indignation in the West, and kept Palestinian solidarity activists on the back foot. In turn, the outrage has smoothed Israel’s path as it has levelled vast swaths of Gaza; killed more than 18,700 Palestinians, most of them women and children; and denied the enclave’s population of 2.3 million access to food, water and fuel. Critically, it has also made it far easier for western governments to throw their weight behind Israel – and arm it – even as Israeli leaders have repeatedly engaged in genocidal talk and carried out ethnic cleansing operations. Israel’s intense bombing campaigns have herded nearly two million Palestinians into a small section of Gaza, pressed up against its short border with Egypt, while starvation and fatal disease start to take their toll. Many of the claims about 7 October have been shocking beyond belief, such as stories that Hamas beheaded 40 babies, baked another in an oven, carried out mass, systematic rapes, and cut a foetus from its mother’s womb. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken even described in graphic detail – and wholly falsely – a Hamas attack on an Israeli family: “The father’s eye gouged out in front of his kids. The mother’s breast cut off, the girl’s foot amputated, the boy’s fingers cut off before they were executed.” Little evidence Atrocities were undoubtedly committed that day by Hamas and other gunmen in Israel, as groups like Human Rights Watch have been documenting. They have continued to occur in Gaza every day since, not least through Israel’s continuing and relentless bombing of civilians, and through Hamas’ refusal to free the remaining Israeli hostages without an exchange of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. But in respect of the more shocking allegations against Hamas promoted by the western media – which have bolstered the case for Israel’s two-month rampage in Gaza – often little or no evidence has been forthcoming beyond claims made by Israeli officials and highly partisan and unreliable first responders. Last week the BBC and others led again with stories of systematic Hamas mass rapes on 7 October. Efforts by the United Nations to investigate these claims are being obstructed by Israel. Stephen Knight was born in Hainault, Essex in 1951. He left school at sixteen to pursue a career as a journalist. He was a reporter on several weekly London papers and by age 20 had become chief reporter of one of them. In 1973, Knight met a man who claimed to know the truth behind the Jack the Ripper murders. Knight investigated the case, obtaining access to previously closed files of the Home Office and Scotland Yard. This led to his first book, the bestselling nonfiction work Jack the Ripper: The Final Solution. More evidence Hitler’s deputy Martin Bormann was behind the Final Solution for the Jews in WW2. Born on 17 June 1900, Martin Ludwig Bormann became one of the most powerful and most feared men in the Third Reich. An obsessive bureaucrat, it was Bormann who helped steer Hitler’s apparatus of terror so effectively that he became the clandestine ruler of Nazi Germany. After joining the Nazi Party in 1927 Bormann rose through its ranks. Indeed, by July 1933 Bormann had manoeuvered himself into the position where he became the Chief of Cabinet in the Office of the Deputy F hrer, Rudolf Hess. In this role Bormann gradually consolidated his power base, so that when Hess carried out his infamous flight to the United Kingdom in 1941, Bormann stepped into his shoes. As the head of the Party Chancellery, Bormann duly took control of the Nazi Party. By the end of 1942, he was in effect Hitler’s deputy and his closest collaborator. With the F hrer increasingly preoccupied with military matters, Hitler came to rely more and more on Bormann to handle Germany’s domestic affairs. On 12 April 1943, Bormann was appointed Personal Secretary to the F hrer. Feared by ministers, Gauleiters, civil servants, judges and generals alike, Bormann identified strongly with Hitler’s ideas on racial politics, destruction of the Jews and forced labour and made himself indispensable as the F hrer’s executioner. Cold as ice, he decided the fate of millions of people. In January 1945, with the Third Reich collapsing, Bormann returned to the F hrerbunker with Hitler. Following Hitler’s suicide on 30 April, Bormann was named as Party Minister, thus officially confirming his rise to the top of the Party. Late the following day he fled from the bunker in an attempt to escape the encircling Red Army; his fate remaining a mystery for many years. In October 1946 he was found guilty in absentia by the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg and sentenced to death. Drawing heavily on recently declassified documents and files, the historian and journalist Volker Koop reveals the full story of the most faithful member of Hitler’s inner circle, an individual who, whilst little known to the German people, became the second most powerful man in the Third Reich.
