This was our International Women’s Day show and it took place a day before the start of the Week against Police Brutality. We aired four commentaries from Critical Resistance, grassroots organization pushing for abolition of the prison industrial complex. The clips included the voices of Laura Whitehorn, a former political prisoner who is currently working with the Reduce Aging People in Prison campaign, Maya Schenwar who is the editor of Truth Out, Alice Kim from the Prison Neighborhood Arts Project, and Andrea Ritchie who is the author of Invisible No More. We also aired a short clip by Robyn Maynard speaking to the themes of her book called Policing Black Lives. The last pre-recorded piece we shared was an interview done by PBS News Hour with Tayari Jones about her new book An American Marriage, which is getting a lot of press coverage in the US at the moment. We ended the show with a news segment about Palestinian women prisoners.
