Here on Labor Express Radio we view labor news in a broad sense. Yes, we cover strikes, lockouts, organizing campaigns and contract fights â the stuff people typically think of as labor news. But the concerns of working people extend well beyond these workplace fights. Here at labor express we view issues of education, immigration, health care, human rights and peace and justice just as just as much labor news as struggles on the shop floor. And todayâs program is a prime example of this broad view of what constitutes labor news.
First off we will hear from Jeff Biggers, author of Reckoning at Eagle Creek: The Secret Legacy of Coal in the Heartland, about how the coal industry destroys workers lives both in the coal fields and in the communities polluted by burning coal as fuel. He spoke at a international day of climate action event in Chicago, part of some 7,000 similar events held worldwide on 10-10-10 organized by 350.org
Will hear about plans for a Midwest regional anti-march planned for next Saturday, October 16th from march organizer Joleen Kirschenman of the Chicago Coalition Against War & Racism and get an update on the victims of those FBI raids on anti-war and labor activists we discussed a few weeks ago.
And will hear about the continuation of human rights violations in post coup Honduras from Honduran human rights activist Berta Oliva.
