The Hanford nuclear site: Still Radioactive after all these years
Join KBOO's Chris Andreae and Liam Delta as they take you on a virtual tour of the world's first large-scale nuclear reactor, located just four hours from Portland, in Richland Washington. Then hear a talk by Paige Knight of Hanford Watch on the efforts being undertaken to address the massive contamination . As the President recommends nuclear energy as part of the nation's long-term energy plan, and the military continues to maintain a nuclear arsenal, allegedly as a 'deterrent', the long-term effects of nuclear production, storage and use are often left out of the debate. Now is the time to look back at the Hanford site, and other sites like it, and see the extent of the radiation that is leeching into our ecosystem already - before we think about adding any more such reactors .
