Prior to World War 2, Japanese Canadians living in British Columbia were an industrious community of new Canadians.

Following Japan's bombing of Pearl Harbor, they were removed from the West Coast and lost all their property. Terry Watada says the key factors were racism and greed. His novel provides an inside view of a community seeking ways to survive and resist.
