Alternatives to Cuts - The Great Bristol Debate HOW CAN WE AVOID CUTTING COUNCIL SERVICES AND FIGHT TORY AUSTERITY? Since the huge anti-austerity march in Bristol last September which Bristolâs Labour mayor, Marvin Rees, took part in, various groups in Bristol have been campaigning for the council to find alternatives to cutting our vital public services and to continue the fight against Tory austerity in local government. Campaigners have successfully defeated the proposed cuts to the Council Tax Reduction Scheme, postponed plans to close 17 libraries, saved 16 of 40 threatened lollipop people and seen the council drop plans to completely de-fund our parks. The council have even passed a Labour motion against austerity. However many other services are still at risk, this year and in the years to come, if Theresa Mayâs plans are not defeated. Join us on Wednesday 24th January for an open debate about what we can do instead of cutting public toilets, libraries, parks, services for the disabled, arts funding and many other threatened services.
