Comcast is expanding its internet data caps, and internet activists are not happy.
Produced for Nov. 6, 2015, but can air a few days later.
Comcast announced it is expanding its internet data caps to Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Little Rock, Arkansas; Houma, LaPlace and Shreveport, Louisiana; Chattanooga, Gray, Greenville, Johnson City and Rarity Bay, Tennessee; and Galax, Virginia. This year Comcast now has more Internet than TV customers, and is interested in maximizing profits. Comcast is limiting data and rolling out a $35 unlimited option to most of the areas that have data caps. Comcast continues to exert its dominance in the uncompetitive market for high-speed Internet access, increasing the bottom line for its incredibly profitable broadband business, Matt Wood, the policy director for Free Press, said in an emailed statement. He added that the caps stifle innovation and choice in online video and cloud-based services.
