OmniTRAX Canada has recently announced its plans to ship 3.3 million barrels of crude oil per year by rail through northern Manitoba from The Pas to the Port of Churchill, then onto tanker ships in Hudson's Bay. The eastern line, where the oil would be shipped, is about 1,300 kilometres through swampy unstable ground. The most recent derailment, due to flooding on the tracks, was in April 2013.
