The Richmond Region Energy Alliance is one of 40 initiatives across the US funded by the Department of Energy to provide comprehensive resources for home energy improvement. RREA provides access to licensed energy assessors who perform home audits, to contractors who can complete the renovations, to rebates, loans and other financing options, and to quality-assurance follow-up assessments from EarthCraft. The energy audit is invaluable for identifying a home's infrastructural weaknesses (common culprits are inadequate insulation and duct leakage) and provides homeowners the information they need to focus repairs where they're needed most. RREA hopes to facilitate livable comfort, lower energy bills, promote energy efficiency, and bolster local economies, and they especially service older homes that predate building codes and first-time homeowners who receive egregious energy bills.
