An diplomat by training, he first drew headlines for his work with Hans Blix on the UN Weapons inspection team that determined a set of documents that purported to show that Iraq had tried to acquire urnamim from Niger were not authentic, in short that the Bush administration was lying about evidence of weapons of mass destruction, or, as the British dossier had it, “fitting evidence around policy”
