Phil interviews Tony Leah about the situation of Canadian labour.
Leah lucidly describes the lack of leadership in the CLC under Hassan Yussuf, who has enjoyed a term extension as a result of COVID-19. Yussuf is not entitled to the CLC presidency, as his union left the Congress, and has engaged in raiding.
UNIFOR, and by extension Yussuf, are following the political line of cozying up to the Liberal Party.
In contrast to the capitulationist politics discussed here, Taylor and Leah bring up the political activity of Dimitri Lascaris and Sid Ryan. These individuals are talking about matters that are outside the borders of Canada, such as alliances between workers, and respect for international law.
Ryan and Lascaris have supported the Green Jobs Oshawa campaign to nationalize GM in order to produce green vehicles. And there are other progressive policies, as well. We need leaders who are comfortable with words like "democratic planning," "confrontation" and "nationalization."
The tragedy of COVID-19 has shown the ineptitude of the U.S. system, and the compassion of the socialist countries. Lascaris has stood up for Venezuela, which distinguishes him from the approach of most Canadian politicians.
