Free After 42 Years For A Crime The State Knows Delbert Africa Didnât Commit! with Delbert Africa, political prisoner, 42 yrs., member of the Move 9 and Dan Thomson, works at the Peopleâs Law Office as a civil rights and criminal defense lawyer.
One of the great open wounds of the 1970s black liberation struggle came closer to being healed with the release of Delbert Orr Africa, a member of the Move organization, a collective guided by the principles of natural law, who fought against corrupt government, racism and the degradation of people of African-ancestry, who has been imprisoned for 42 years for a crime he did not commit. Delbert recounts the crime the state perpetrated against him and his Move family, on August 8, 1978, a date of infamy. It marked an attack on the MOVE house in West Philadelphiaâs Powelton Village, when hundreds of cops fired thousands of shots into the structure where men, women and babies huddled in the basement. Gunfire was joined by water cannons, deluging the MOVE people, who fought to avoid drowning in that dark place. Now 73 Delbert remains as committed as ever he was to the causes for equal rights and justice. ****************************
