Today we start with an excerpt from Palestinian Remi Kanazi's brilliant performance at Harvard, commemorating Israeli Apartheid Week. Born 1981, Kanazi is a tour de force, a bundle of energy who is part poet, part stand up comedian, and part social commentator based in New York City. All 3 parts are evident in his performances. He is the editor of the anthology of hip hop, poetry and art, Poets for Palestine (2008), the author of two collections of poetry, Poetic Injustice: Writings on Resistance and Palestine (2011) and Before the Next Bomb Drops: Rising Up From Brooklyn to Palestine (2015). Go to youtube.com/user/PoeticInjusticeNet for his official channel. Have a look at "This Divestment Bill Hurts My Feelings."
Then we move over to Tufts University for part of its own recognition of Israeli Apartheid Week. It begins with introductions by Tufts Professor Tom Abowd. Noura Erakat and Khuri Peterson-Smith discuss the history and significance of Black-Palestinian solidarity. Noura Erakat, human rights attorney and Assistant Professor at George Mason University, is the author of Justice for Some: Law in the Question of Palestine (Stanford University Press, 2019). Khuri Peterson-Smith is the Michael Ratner Fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies, where he studies migrant and refugee policies.
