The Politics of Immigration
with
Jane Guskin and David L. Wilson have been writing since 1990 about immigration, labor, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Their articles have appeared in Truthout, NACLA Report on the Americas, MRZine, The Huffington Post, and other publications. For over twenty years, they co-edited Weekly News Update on the Americas, an English-language bulletin covering grassroots news from Latin America. Guskin also edited a companion publication, Immigration News Briefs.

The Politics of Immigration authors brilliantly interrogate this urgent subject that defines our time. Guskin and Wilson ask and answer dozens of crucial questions roiling the nation, ranging from why do people migrate and what are their impacts on U.S. society, to what are the contours of U.S. immigration law and what should a sensible 21st century policy look like. We desperately need to put aside false information about immigrants, to see them as we see ourselves with honesty and compassion. Guskin and Wilson give powerful meaning to the slogan No Human Being is Illegal. Guskin and Wilson will talk about why are people in other countries leaving their homes and coming here? What does it mean to be illegal? How do immigration raids, prisons, and border walls impact communities? Who suffers and who profits from our current system"and what would happen if we transformed it? Well go beyond soundbites to tackle these concerns to provide effective tools to confront current stereotypes and disinformation
